For someone who is a sort-of language geek like me, this list of oddities in the English language may amuse. My personal favorite, though, is, curteousy of George Bernard Shaw, “ghoti,” pronounced as “fish.” Why?
“gh” sounds like “f” as in “enough”
“o” sounds like “i” as in “women”
“ti” sounds like “sh” as in “nation”
