Become a Paid Blogger for Weblogs, Inc.

As most of you probably know, I am now a paid blogger on MacUser (actually a paid trial blogger). I got that opportunity through an invitation, so it’s not like just anyone can sign up. But what if you want to be a paid blogger, and don’t know anyone one these paid blogs? Well, Weblogs, Inc., the company that owns and runs a huge network of blog including the immensely popular Engadget and TUAW blogs, has applications to anyone that wants to join any one of their 90 blogs. To do so, just go to the Weblogs, Inc. homepage, and click on “More Info” under the big box on top labeled “Bloggers.” There is now age or experience requirement, but you have to remember that there must be a lot of people trying out for the really popular blogs like Engadget, TUAW, and Joystiq. But still, this is an awesome way to make some cash by doing something that you love.

The One-Minute Seder

Last year, right before Pesach (the Hebrew name for Passover), my cousin sent me a link to the one-minute seder. Of course, that was before I had this blog, so i couldn’t blog it (duh!). Well, my mom got the same link from her friend last night, which reminded me to blog about it. Well hear I am. The one-minute seder is an animated flash file complete with music, animation, and hebrew names for each parts of the seder that flash by. Even if you can’t read the hebrew (which I assume is most of you), there are still parts very easy to recognize (clicking wine glasses=kiddush (prayer for the wine), hands together=prayer (actually it’s hillel, which are psalms and songs of praise to G-d), and of course, the matzah). Overall, it’s a very humorous video and with a minute of your time.

Fresh News Picked Right off the Vine

Most of you know about digg, the online peer-production news site. I’ve been using digg for well over a month now, and until today I’ve though that it was the best peer-production news site out there. Boy, was I wrong. I figured this out today when I went to see the SEOmoz’s 2006 Web 2.0 Awards, which pick the best Web 2.0 site in a certain category based on the number of peer nominations. While browsing the categories, I noticed the winners of the peer-production news category. Instead of seeing digg in first place, which I expected, I saw a site called Newsvine. Digg had made it to second place, yet this Newsvine site and somehow ousted digg in this category. This made me very interested, so I decided to check out Newsvine. After briefly exploring some of the site, I decided to join, which is of course free, to try out all of the features it has to offer. Within 30 minutes, I became obsessed. somehow, this little site had become even better than digg in my opinion, even though digg is still vastly more popular. Here are some of the features that showed me why:

April Fool’s Day News in the Tech World

Today, as you all (at least if you’re in the U.S.) know that today is April Fool’s Day. In addition to your typical pranks and jokes, there were also some major things happening today in the tech world. Here they are:

For April Fool’s Day, Google pulled a clever little prank by launching a new "service" called Google Romance. Romance, which is being advertised on the Google homepage, is supposed to be Google’s attempt at a dating service. The joke is pretty clever, and is quite funny. It’s a good April Fool’s Day laugh.

Google, in addition to their prank, has some other news on April Fool’s Day. GMail, Google’s very popular e-mail service (which I happen to use) turns 2 today. Besides the GMail logo on your GMail account homepage being decorated with confetti and a candle, Google hasn’t really done anything special with GMail for it’s 2nd B-Day, unlike it’s 1st birthday in which GMail users got 2GB of storage space and additional space being added every second, even to this day. But GMail’s birthday is not even close to today’s next birthday.

The biggest April Fool’s Day birthday is for…APPLE COMPUTER!!!!!!! Yes, thirty years ago today, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak incorporated Apple Computer. This is a HUGE day for Apple, and they’re doing absolutely nothing. That’s right, no new product, no announcement, not even the slightest acknowledgment of this big day in their history. What a bummer. But still, it’s a warm outside (at least in NYC) so you can still go out and throw a graet, big Apple 30th Birthday Party, that is, if you want to.
